Small Comfort. November 3, 2004.
I am disappointed by the outcome of yesterday's presidential election, but there is not a lot else to say. Though hardly overwhelming, the outcome was decisive.
African-Americans know all about disappointment and keeping the faith even when nothing seems to be going your way. African-Americans gave 88 percent of their votes to John Kerry. As I came to grips with the reality of Tuesday's outcome, the words of an old Gospel song ran through my head and gave me a little comfort.
It is called "Trouble in My Way."
Trouble in my way.
I have to cry sometimes.
I’ve got so much trouble,
I have to cry sometime.
I lay awake at night,
But that’s alright,
Cause I know Jesus,
He’ll fix it after while.
Trouble in my way.
I have to moan sometimes.
I’ve got so much trouble,
I have to moan sometime.
I lay awake at night,
But that’s alright,
Cause I know Jesus,
He’ll fix it after while.
Trouble in my way.
I have to pray sometimes.
I’ve got so much trouble,
I have to pray sometime.
I lay awake at night,
But that’s alright,
Cause I know Jesus,
He’ll fix it after while.
